Disneyland Paris: five injured on Big Thunder Mountain ride

Add to My Stories One of the most popular attractions at the Disneyland Paris theme park in France remains closed today after five tourists were injured when riding it.25 people were on board the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride when a piece of the attraction's 'scenery' fell onto the track before being hit by one of the trains causing serious injury to one rider and harm to four others.

There were 25 people on board,' said Thierry Bonnet, deputy prefect for the Seine-et-Marne region, where the park is located.Disneyland Paris said in a statement that a 38-year-old man was beingtreated in a Paris hospital for a head injury and four people had to be attended to by the park's own paramedics.The statement continued: 'The safety of our guests and Cast Members remains our top priority and the attraction will remain closed until further notice in order to allow the ongoing inquiry to determine the causes of this incident.' The rest of the park remains open.

Disneyland Paris attracts around 15 million visitors every year and the Easter bank holiday weekend meant the theme park was particularly full. The park celebrated its 20th year in 2010.
The attraction, which mimics a runaway mine train, is rated as one of the Disney's top theme park rides. It isn't the first time tragedy has hit though. In 2003, one man was killed and ten ot! hers wer e injured at Disney California Adventure when a single car broke away from the other carriages.
