Jiaoli Miao Village, Guizhou

Jiaoli Miao Village, Guizhou

Rice is about ready to harvest in the Miao village of Jiaoli in southeastern Guizhou Province. Located in an isolated valley, Jiaoli would be largely self-sufficient in that it has a water source, sufficient arable land to feed the village, and timber to construct the traditional wood frame houses.

An ideal time to visit this part of Guizhou is late August because the fields are turning golden and villagers dress up in their finest clothes to celebrate the New Rice Eating Festival. Both offer superb opportunities for capturing amazing photos, especially when we can join the festivities. (Brian K. Smith photo.)

Think this looks pretty spectacular? Why not come here in August with Brian and Rick to see a part of China very few North Americans have visited? Contact us to join our Southwest China Cultural Minorities and Classical Landscapes tour.
