Tea Caravan

Ya'an () is the starting point of the Sichuan-Tibet branch of the Ancient Tea-Horse Caravan Road (). The brick tea produced in Ya'an was carried by caravans traversing the Erlang Mountain to Tibet and further to Nepal and India to exchange for horses. Ya'an is one of the birthplaces of tea culture, whose tea growing history can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty over 2,000 years ago. Seven tea trees planted at the Mengding Mountain are believed to be the ancestors of Chinas tea.

The first giant panda was discovered in Baoxing County of Ya'an Prefecture.
