Beijing Forbidden City

This is the interiors of the Taihedian Hall in the Forbidden City.

The Taihedian (in chinese literally means the Golden Carriage Palace) was being used for grand celebrations marking the emperors birthday, wedding ceremony, chinese new year and the dispatch of generals into the war field.

The imperial throne in the centre of the Taihedian comprises of Gold laquered throne with carvings of Dragon symbolizing the supreme imperial power. In the middle of the ceiling is a design of a coiled golden dragon playing with a huge pearl. The pearl in the dragons mouth was called Precious Mirror of Xaunyuan (Emperor Huangdi's name). It symbolized that the emperor was the legitimate successor of emperor Huangdi. It was believed that if anyone who is not the descendant of the emperor Huangdi usurped the throne, the pearl would drop down and strike him dead
