Long ago, a monk suffering from an unknown illness rode on a rhinoceros from Tibet to Jiuzhaigou. When he arrived, the rhinoceros brought him to the bank of this lake to drink. When the monk drank the brightly colored water, his illness vanished. Such was his gratitude, he ordered the rhinoceros to stay in the lake to protect the local people.
