UK weather forecast: Britain warmer than Istanbul

Anyone planning a spot of camping this weekend - and that includes Glastonbury goers - can breathe a sigh of relief.The Met Office is forecasting the hottest day of the year will be this Sunday, with Saturday and Monday being fairly hot as well.
Forecasters say temperatures will soar to 28 degrees celsius on Sunday - with glorious sunshine predicted particularly in the south and south east of England.

Sizzling? Beaches will be busy this weekend if the promised high temperatures materialise The weekend could well be warmer than already experienced in the glorious hot spell during April, say weather experts.

FIVE DAY FORECAST

TODAY: Bright and sunny this morning but chance of a few light showers. Rain expected this evening
TOMORROW: Rain will clear away in the morning and it will be warm and humid in the south with highs of 26 degrees celsius
SUNDAY: Hot in the south and south east with temperatures likely to top 28 degrees. Cooler in the north
MONDAY: Hot in the south with similar temperatures to Sunday, but cooler and more unsettled in the north
TUESDAY: Risk of thundery showers developing, cooler and more unsettled weatherThe news will be welcomed by those heading off for weekend breaks, festivals and to Wimbledon.
Even Glastonbury revellers, who have been wallowing in mud since they arrived onthe Somerset campsite for the annual music festival, can expect to dry out.
MetOffice forecaster Alex Fox said: 'Early in the morning on Saturday we are looking at fairly cloudy weather with outbreaks of rain across the country.
'Then we should see skies clearing across southern parts of the UK and quite warmtemperatures across the south and south east, possibly 28 degrees.'The hottest day of the year so far was June 4 when the! tempera ture was 28.1 degrees celsius, and it will be close to that this Sunday. The hottest day of the year is more likely tobe Sunday.'Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to be cloudier with highs of 22 degrees celsius on Saturday and 24 degrees on Sunday.

However, the best of the weather willbe on Sunday when temperatures in London and the east of England are expected to soar to 28 degrees.
That's several degrees higher than temperatures predicted for both Istanbul and Gibraltar.

Wet Wimbledon: Spectators at the tennis tournament have found their brollies coming in handy as they have faced showersMr Hammond said: 'Sunday will definitely see the best of the weather. In London and the east of England there will be highs of 28 degrees.
'It will get to around 24 degrees at Glastonbury, so probably not enough to dry out all the mud and the warm weather will continue into Monday.
'But the high temperatures could trigger thundery showers, which could stretch into next week, so bad news again for those heading to Wimbledon.'
