On the descent from the Ngamba la 4700m pass there are magnificent views of Drogon Gonpa, clinging to the sheer cliff-face above the town Zhiwu along the river Zhiwuchi chu .
The Sakyapa monastery known as Drogon Puntsok Dargyeling, originally belonged to the Kadampa tradition, but was converted by Drogon Chogyel Phakpa in 1265 when he stayed here on his return journey from Mongolia to Lhasa.
