In Shanghai, if you're looking for the ideal place to enjoy drinks and snacks while taking in a great film, the widely-regarded Vienna Caf on Shaoxing Road is now no longer the only place in town to head to. There are a number of cafs in the city boasting cozy environments, great coffee and the latest independent flicks.

Down time
The Sculpting in Time Caf originated in a small hutong near Peking and Tsinghua universities in Beijing in 1997. After years of nurturing, and absorbing, the intellectual influences of these institutions, the caf has now spread its wings to several cities in China, including Shanghai.
Apart from shelves lined with books and designer notepads, the caf, located in the creative cluster of Red Town, has a very noticeable toy theme, according to the caf's marketing officer Ma Yuting. Toys reminiscent of characters in popular animation films are dotted around the place with Buzz Lightyear sitting on a bookshelf, while Doraemon and his friends greet customers with big smiles from a shelf of magazines.
Ma told the Global Times that the caf will select a different animation theme for film screenings every month. The current theme is films from Pixar, and this will run until December 18. The films are screened every Saturday and Sunday at 5:30 pm. And The Lion King 2 will be shown tomorrow.
