One of two classical Chinese style buildings at the end of the plaza opposite the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and along with the National Concert Hall opposite, form the Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Centre. Completed in 1987, these two buildings form Taiwan's premier performing arts venue and two of the first such centres in Asia. Along with the Memorial Hall these buildings and the Plaza were comissioned to upon the death of Kai-Shek in 1975.
